Zweieinhalb mal großartig und der Rest recht gut, aber nicht spektakulär. Die Platten Kritik ist einfach: Sowas was nennt man wohl solides Comeback. Im September 2008 verkündete Jan Plewka selbige Reunion. Es besteht kein Zweifel, dass Selig in den Neunzigern einer der wichtigsten deutschen Alternative Bands gewesen ist. Hits wie “Ohne Dich“, “Wenn ich wollte” oder “Sie hat geschrien” haben den Test der Zeit bestanden und machen (ab und an) auch heute noch Spaß zu hören. Nur das seltsame Blender stoppte ein wenig die Euphorie. Ob das viel zu poppige, teilweise richtig schlechte Album, der Grund für den Split war, bleibt Spekulation.
Egal. Selig sind zurück. Und spielen direkt in ausvekauften Hallen auf ihrer 2009 Tour. Und die CD? Sie schaffen es überzeugend das Feeling der Neunziger wiederaufleben zu lassen. So spricht der Marketing Manager. Fehlender Mut zur Innovation und Scheuklappen. Selig haben ihren Stil lediglich ein weiteres Mal kopiert. So der Kritiker. Wo liegt die Wahrheit. Wie immer in der Mitte….
Das Album fängt gleich mit einem echten Knaller an. Ein langsamer aber stetig steigender Song mit kruden Plewka Texten und Metaphern gespickt… Innerhalb Sekunden fühlt man sich um Jahre jünger und kurzzeitig macht sich ein breites Grinsen auf meinem Gesicht breit.
Dieser Weg in Richtung komplexer Songs und weg vom schnittigen Pop Song wird leider nur ein weiteres Mal bei Ich dachte schon begangen. Dreckiger, düsterer Blues und eine fast zerreissende Stimme. Topp.
Leider liegen dazwischen dann doch wieder die poppigen Deutschrock Lieder, die mal recht gut sind (Die Single “Schau, Schau, Schau“), manchmal aber auch recht belanglos (“Der schönste aller Wege“). Dezente versuche aus dem Schema auszubrechen, sind vorhanden und werden zumindest anerkennend notiert.
An der Stelle wird jedoch viel Potential verschenkt, zumal kein Zweifel besteht: Selig sind ausnahmslos gute Musiker und die durchweg passende und rundum gelungene Produktion tut ihr übriges dazu. Nur die Songs überzeugen nicht so richtig.
Egal. Zum nebenbei hören ist das Album auf jeden Fall gelungen. Und damit besser als viele andere Comebacks in den letzten Jahren.
